with the clarinettists of Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra

Thursday, 9 July 2020 | 5.45pm – 6.00pm

The video and audio was edited, with thanks, by Jordan Lewis.

Event programme

Libertango (arrangement for clarinet quartet)

About the creators

Laurent Putz

Laurent is a 3rd year BSc Physics with Music undergraduate. Having picked up the clarinet at the age of 11, Laurent continues to enjoy music performance as an enriching balance to his scientific studies. He has been Orchestral Scholar in the University’s orchestras, and can look back onto three years of diverse ensembles and projects; noteworthy examples include a production of ‘Peter and the Wolf’, a student-led wind quintet, and two rather memorable ‘Grade-1-athons’ on cello and tuba, respectively. During his upcoming master’s programme, Laurent will pursue his academic interests in computational methods for natural sciences.

Jordan Lewis

Jordan has just finished his second year studying Music at Royal Holloway and plays clarinet in the RH Symphony and Chamber Orchestras. He is also a member of the Undergraduated Big Band and plays bass guitar in the jazz quintet ‘So What’. Jordan enjoys composing music and hopes to specialise in this in his final year. Some of his favourite musical artists are Steven Wilson and Philip Glass.

Ethan Bodman

Ethan has just completed his first year of his Maths and Music joint honours degree at Royal Holloway. He has enjoyed his first year by playing in Royal Holloway Symphony and Chamber Orchestras and as well as other ensembles. For the next academic year, he will be the Assistant Orchestral Manager. Other than a clarinettist Ethan is an equally keen saxophonist and flautist.

Fiz Markham
Bass clarinet

Fiz Markham is a mature student completing her BMus degree at Royal Holloway. She plays Bass clarinet in the Royal Holloway Symphony Orchestra, and has done so for four (very enjoyable) years. Fiz is hoping to continue her studies studying for an MMus, specialising in composition. Outside of her studies, she enjoys singing, playing folk music, morris dancing, conducting and teaching music.
